Five Social entrepreneurs awarded for their contribution in socio-economic development

The Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award (SNASEA) has awarded five ‘hidden’ social entrepreneurs among 66 applicants in a ceremony organised in the capital on Monday.

The award-winning entrepreneurs include - Ram Sapkota (Mountain Delights Treks and Expedition and Tukee Nepal, Jyamrung),  Sabita Maharjan (Kirtipur Hosiery, Kirtipur), Shyam Badan Yadav (Kalash Milk Industry, Dhorey Village, Parsa), Vijaya Development Resource Centre (VDRC, Nawalparasi), and Chhahari Services (Kathmandu).

Each of the five winners bagged the cash prize of Rs. 100,000 from Surya Nepal Private Limited along with the opportunity of networking through ChangeFusion Nepal.

The winner Sapkota is running the projects which have changed the life standard of the people in Jyamrung, Dhading. He bagged the award for contributing in the areas such as eco toilets, micro hydro electricity including health and education through this organisation.
Similarly, Sabita has been providing trainings and employment for women through Kirtipur Hosiery. She has been helping local women become financially independent through this organisation.

Yadav has been providing job opportunities through his Kalash Milk Industry to the villagers in Dhorey and neighbouring villages. Yadav helped the villagers switch from marijuana farming to dairy by distributing free livestock to them.

Likewise, VDRC has been awarded for contributing in different areas of development under one umbrella encompassing education, media, microfinance and various other thematic areas following its vision of an equitable, affluent and self reliant society.

Likewise, Chhahari Services in Kathmandu has been awarded for providing women with no skills to generate income by empowering them through capacity building and income generating trainings.

SNASEA has started awarding the ordinary people and organisations for their extraordinary work creating social, environmental and economic value.
